The Nigerian Celebration Calendar: Every Occasion Worth Remembering—and Gifting For
Nigeria has no shortage of reasons to celebrate. Beyond birthdays and anniversaries, there are religious festivals, family milestones, cultural ceremonies, professional achievements and appreciation days that give people an opportunity to show love—with a thoughtful message, gift box, experience, money bouquet or bank transfer.

Nigeria’s recurring public-holiday calendar also includes New Year, Easter, Workers’ Day, Democracy Day, Eid celebrations, Independence Day, Christmas and Boxing Day. Religious dates such as Easter and the Eids should be updated every year.
Motherhood may be celebrated more than once in Nigeria: many churches observe Mothering Sunday during Lent, while many Nigerians also mark the second Sunday in May. Some denominations set additional church-specific dates. Children’s Day is observed nationally on 27 May, while Father’s Day is commonly celebrated on the third Sunday of June. International Women’s Day, Friendship Day and World Teachers’ Day fall on 8 March, 30 July and 5 October respectively.

Christian occasions
Christmas, Easter, Good Friday, Palm Sunday, Mothering Sunday, church harvest or thanksgiving, church anniversaries, child dedication, christening, baptism, First Communion, confirmation, ordination and pastoral anniversaries can all be added to a reminder calendar.
Muslim occasions
Ramadan, iftar gatherings, Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, Eid al-Mawlid, Aqiqah or naming ceremonies, Nikah weddings and the return of loved ones from Hajj or Umrah are also important moments for gifts and messages.
The dates of Ramadan, the Eids and other Islamic celebrations change annually because they follow the lunar calendar.
